Is Space Perspective returning? The company could be preparing for a revival under new ownership, more than a year after serious financial difficulties brought the development of its Spaceship Neptune programme to a halt.
The company’s website has recently been replaced by a simple “Launching Soon” page with a contact form. Although this suggests that something is being prepared behind the scenes, it does not yet confirm that reservations have reopened or that passenger flights are about to begin.
So, what happened to Space Perspective, who owns it now, and could Spaceship Neptune finally take passengers to the edge of space?
What happened to Space Perspective?
With Space Perspective returning under discussion, it is useful to revisit the original plans. The company attracted worldwide attention with its plans to carry passengers into the stratosphere beneath a giant hydrogen balloon.
Its plans called for a pressurised Spaceship Neptune capsule carrying eight passengers and a captain to an altitude of approximately 100,000 feet. The planned six-hour experience would include spectacular views of Earth, the darkness of space and the planet’s curvature.
Unlike a rocket flight, the journey would involve no high-speed launch, extreme acceleration or period of weightlessness. This positioned Spaceship Neptune as a comparatively gentle and accessible form of space tourism.
The company advertised tickets at $125,000 per passenger.
Before reports of Space Perspective returning emerged, the company faced severe financial difficulties during 2025. Operations appeared to cease, the company furloughed employees and the business faced eviction proceedings involving several Florida properties. Travel-industry reports urged partners to contact customers with deposits. However, uncertainty remained about the company’s future.
Reports described operations as halted. Nevertheless, those descriptions do not by themselves establish the company’s precise legal status.
EOS-X Space acquires Space Perspective
In July 2025, representatives of EOS-X Space announced its acquisition of Space Perspective after a competitive bidding process.
The announcement did not disclose the purchase price and complete transaction terms.
EOS-X said Space Perspective would continue with a United States headquarters and its own leadership. It also intended to retain part of the former team and accelerate the development of passenger operations.
Plans announced at the time included a Florida flight operation associated with the Space Coast and a capsule assembly facility in California. Reports also suggested that the Space Perspective business could eventually operate under a new name.
Space Perspective returning would build on both companies’ development work. EOS-X already has its own plans to operate luxury passenger balloon flights, making the acquisition strategically valuable. It potentially provides EOS-X with Space Perspective’s Neptune capsule technology, brand recognition, technical development and previous customer interest.
Is Space Perspective definitely returning?
There are signs of Space Perspective returning. However, the company has not confirmed commercial passenger operations.
The official Space Perspective website currently displays only the words “Launching Soon,” together with a contact form. The site no longer shows the former capsule details, $125,000 price, reservations or flight schedule.
This may indicate that EOS-X is preparing a relaunch or rebrand. However, the website does not currently provide:
- A date for the resumption of passenger flights
- A test-flight programme
- Confirmed regulatory approvals
- Current ticket pricing
- Booking or deposit terms
- Information for customers who paid the former company
- Details of how Space Perspective and EOS-X will operate together
Until the operator addresses those points, Space Perspective returning remains a possibility rather than confirmed passenger availability.
Was Richard Branson involved?
Virgin Group founder Sir Richard Branson invested in Space Perspective. The company also announced him as a prospective co-pilot for its first crewed flight.
That association inevitably led to speculation about whether Branson or another established space-tourism investor might rescue the business when its financial problems became public.
However, available reports do not establish a Branson bid or role in the eventual acquisition. The confirmed buyer was EOS-X Space.
What does this mean for previous customers?
The prospect of Space Perspective returning may encourage previous customers. However, the acquisition does not automatically explain what happens to earlier deposits.
Customers should not assume that the new owner has accepted every liability or booking agreement held by the previous company. Anyone with an existing reservation should request written confirmation covering:
- Whether the original booking remains valid
- How the operator handles the deposit
- The current expected flight date
- Available refund or cancellation rights
- Which legal company is now responsible for the agreement

Could Spaceship Neptune still fly?
Yes, it could.
Space Perspective had already completed important development work, including uncrewed testing of its full-sized capsule. EOS-X’s acquisition provides a potential route for the technology and programme to continue instead of disappearing entirely.
Nevertheless, stratospheric passenger operations require substantial funding, extensive testing, regulatory approval and a reliable operational infrastructure. A new website alone is not evidence that commercial flights are imminent.
There are signs of Space Perspective returning under EOS-X Space. Nevertheless, the operator has yet to confirm a flight schedule, prices and booking arrangements.
